Representatives of the Republic Electoral Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR special election assessment mission met today at the National Assembly to discuss the continuation of the election process.

The Chairperson of the Republic Electoral Commission Vladimir Dimitrijevic informed the representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR special election assessment mission about the election process so far, the suspension of the process because of the state of emergency declared due to the COVID–19 pandemic and the coming electoral activities. The representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR special election assessment mission were also briefed on all the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations the REC had implemented in the process.

Ambassador Urszula Jozefa Gacek, heading the OSCE/ODIHR special election assessment mission, said that this is the first mission of its kind organized after the COVID-19 outbreak and it will be following core electoral activities of voter registration, proclamation of electoral lists, the media, as it has been its practice. It will also follow the measures employed by the state bodies’ to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Ambassador also praised the implementation of ODIHR measures from previous elections.

The officials hope that the cooperation of previous electoral processes will be continued.

The meeting was attended by REC Secretary Srdjan Smiljanic, REC Deputy Secretary Branko Marinkovic, and on behalf of the Republic Statistical Office Vladimir Sutic. On behalf of the OSCE/ODIHR special election assessment mission the meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the Mission Stefan Krause, Election Analyst Marcell Nagy, Voter Registration Analyst Goran Petrov, Legal Analyst Elissavet Karagiannidou, Deputy Head of the ODIHR Election Department Ulvi Akhundlu and ODIHR Election Advisor Kseniya Dashutina.
