On 7 May 2026, the Chairperson of the Republic Electoral Commission, Vladimir Dimitrijevic, met at the headquarters of the Republic Electoral Commission, with a five-member delegation headed by the Chief Electoral Officer of the Election Commission of the Indian federal state of Uttarakhand, visiting the Republic of Serbia.
The guests pointed out that this visit was due to the fact that India is chairing the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA - an intergovernmental organization that supports democracy worldwide) this year, and for this reason, the Chief Electoral Officer of the Republic of India has mandated a number of delegations to visit all countries where democratic elections are held in order to exchange experiences, which will contribute to further improving electoral conditions in India.
The purpose of the delegation's visit to Serbia is to enhance institutional cooperation, exchange best practices and experiences between election administration bodies, and further strengthen democracy in the Republic of India and the Republic of Serbia. On this occasion, the officials exchanged experiences as regards the implementation of elections in the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of India, as well as the training of election officials and informing citizens about electoral rights and procedures.
Vladimir Dimitrijevic thanked the guests for the visit and emphasised that the Republic Electoral Commission attaches great importance to the development of good relations with election administration bodies throughout the democratic world, especially with friendly countries such as India, and added that he believes this meeting with the Indian delegation is in the interest of the election authorities of both countries and an exceptional opportunity to exchange experiences in the field of elections, but also that it is an opportunity to strengthen overall relations between the two countries.
